Dear Manager,
I am late today because of the flooding. My house is underwater and the traffic getting here is real bad.
But not to worry, though I now have an official tardiness mark on my record. I am not all tardy in any way when it comes to my work. I am very diligent. All my work for the day will be done and you will receive a proper report on each project's progress.
